Prairie Region at a glance
- Our region is made up of more than 25,000 members from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
- 221 Locals carry out the day-to-day work of the PSAC in the Prairie Region. Our Locals range in size from 9 members to more than 3,000 members, and we have one Directly Chartered Local.
- Our members come from a variety of workplaces and employers, including the Federal Government, Federal Agencies (Parks Canada, Canada Revenue Agency and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency), airports (Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton and Calgary), crown corporations (Canada Post) and Casino Regina.
- The Prairie Region Council Education Committee includes one representative from each province – Gerry Pendulak (Manitoba), Nancy Johnson (Saskatchewan) and Jo Chelick (Alberta), and Judy Shannon (Regional Education Officer).

Formed in 1966, the Public Service Alliance of Canada is one of Canada's largest unions. It represents more than 172,000 people from coast to coast to coast, the PSAC also represents people who work abroad in embassies and consulates.

Labour Lingo
- Arbitration - The method of settling employment disputes through recourse to an impartial third party, whose decision is usually final and binding.
- Bargaining Team - The association/union or employer negotiators who will actually be at the bargaining table and actively involved in the negotiations towards a contract.
- Collective Agreement - A written contract, arrived at through the process of negotiation, which covers the employee’s wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment.
- Directly Chartered Local - A Local that pays dues directly to a labour congress in return for advice and assistance. These locals are not part of a geo-politically subdivided union.
- Grievance - Any complaint or expressed dissatisfaction by an employee in connection with his/her job, pay, or other aspects of his/her employment.
- Injunction - A court order restraining one or more persons, corporations, or unions from performing some act which the court believes would result in irreparable injury to property or other rights.
- Local - The basic unit that make up a union, consisting of one or more bargaining units. The Local regulates relations between its membership and their employers
- Negotiations - The process by which representatives of management and the employee organization bargain to set wages, hours, terms and conditions of employment, and the machinery for handling grievances.
- Ratification - A process whereby all the members of the bargaining unit or employer unit are called to a meeting to review and discuss any and all negotiated changes for a new contract. Following the discussion, a vote will be taken for or against the new contract.
- Tentative Agreement - The point in the collective bargaining process where all issues have been resolved between the parties and the tentative agreement is waiting to be ratified by the parties.
