Post Tsunami Rehabilitation & Child Labour Schools Projects in India

PSAC as a partner in a CLC Canadian delegation to India

A townhall meeting in Kalakatavari Palli village with Women's NGO's and cooperatives from neighbouring villages. They talked about women's issues and their strategies on how to address these.

I would like to preface my report with my sincerest thanks to PSAC Social Justice Fund and Sisters Louise Casselman and Robyn Benson for recommending my name for the delegation.

PSAC provided me with this incredible learning experience and opportunity to be part of the international solidarity work across the oceans. It was an amazing ten days spent with other union brothers and sisters from Canada and our union partners in India who are undertaking the groundwork– Andra Pradesh Viyavasaya Vruthidarula Union (APVVU). We also met with the New Trade Union Initiative (NTUI), and affiliates of Building and Wood Workers International (BWI), who are managing the initiatives on ending child labour in India. We also visited some NGO's, e.g. Sahanivasa and Forum For Women's Rights And Development (FORWORD).

We were a delegation of ten members, representing CLC staff and affiliates - PSAC, Canadian Auto Workers, Steel Workers International.  PSAC was represented by Brother Mike Wing (president UCTE), Raj Dhir (National Vice President for Human Rights, National Component) and Sister Monika Duggal (PSAC staff). Needless to say that many of us came back transformed in some way or another, and were touched by the lives of people that we came to visit and know.

In Solidarity
